Good Morning,
I know this is the Chorley History Society but was wondering if you can help me in finding out a little bit more about the history and heritage of Wigan and Standish with regards to roman archaeology and finds. (I have emailed Wigan as well)
I have recently moved to wigan from Australia and have a lot of family history in the wigan area.
I currently live near Worthington lakes on the site of the old bleach works. I am particularly interested in digs, roman history and finds in a triangle consisting of The Boars Head, Standish and Duxbury golf course.
Can you point me in the direction of any documented digs, finds and general literature on the history of Roman visits to the area.
I am also interested in the same with regards to Oliver Cromwell as I believe he actually stayed in my local “The Boars Head”
Many Thanks
Neville Browitt
