The following Parliamentary Questions were asked by Gordon Marsden, the Labour MP for Blackpool South (and former Editor of History Today) on Wednesday 11th July 2001 (reported in Hansard on the 13th July).


9 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what estimates have been made of the likely costs to public funds of implementing the Valletta Convention. (4246)

10 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what consultations took place with local archaeological societies before the Government signed up to the Valletta Convention. (4250)

11. Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what consultations are planned, and with what groups, over the next 12 months over the implementation of the Valletta Convention. (4248)

12 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what groups will be consulted in the setting up of a register to implement Article 3 of the Valletta Convention. (4252)

13 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what assessment has been made of whether the provisions of the Valletta Convention would be in contravention of the Human Rights Act 1998. (4247)

14 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what estimate has been made of the amount of funding required for projects unable to be conducted by volunteer archaeologists under the Valletta Convention. (4243)

15 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what assessment has been made of the implications of the Valletta Convention on archaeology for the licensed activities of metal detector groups. (4251)

16 Mr Gordon Marsden (Blackpool South): To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what provisions have been made to monitor the impact of implementing the Valletta Convention on the activities of local voluntary archaeological groups and societies. (4249)
